Hopi ear candles is an ancient and natural therapy introduced to the west by the American Hopi Indians to treat many ear, nose and throat problems. The candles are hollow tubes made from natural products including pure beeswax, St Johns wort, sage, chamomile, honey extracts and pure essential oils. A session begins with a consultation confirming suitability for treatment. The client is then made comfortable on the couch and the ear candle is placed over the entrance to the auditory canal and ignited. It is then held in position until it burns down to the required mark. As the candle burns down it works in three phases. The first is the chimney effect, where a gentle suction draws out the impurities from the ear. The second is where the mild heat stimulates the blood and lymph circulation. And finally, the third phase is the regulation of the pressure within the sinuses. The treatment is pleasant, relaxing and completely painless. A mild crackling sound may be heard, and a warming sensation experienced as the candle burns down. The residue ash from the candle if it falls will just turn to dust, it will not burn. Many people report positive results after just one session, however the number of sessions required depends on the severity of the condition. Both ears are always treated, even if there is a problem in only one side. This will ensure balance is maintained. A session is completed with a short massage of the face and ears. This increases the circulation and helps drain the sinuses.
